About Getting Your Fill

The Fillmore, the Fillmoe,  The ‘Moe, The Fill. It has many names. Whatever you may call it, the Fillmore District is a historic neighborhood in San Francisco’s Western Addition. Once a thriving jazz-centered neighborhood, the Fillmore has become almost unrecognizable since redevelopment wiped away the culture that once dominated The ‘Moe.

Getting Your Fill is a blog dedicated to the residents of the Fillmore, new and old, who experience the Fillmore in different ways. There are so many people who are unfamiliar with the neighborhood, it’s history, and the people. Getting Your Fill is a blog that will allow outsiders a closer look inside the community and a new perspective on a changing community.

The Fillmore District, famously referred to as the “Harlem of the West,” was home to many historical jazz clubs during the 1950s and ’60s. While the Fillmore is facing constant changes and gentrification, it is also going through a period of integration in which the old and new are blending together in a positive way. Today, it is still recognized as a musical district with a diverse community and great history.
