About Breanna

While I was earning my bachelor’s degree in Journalism at San Francisco State University, a few classmates remarked that it was a cliché to report on race. I recall one classmate commenting that everything isn’t about race.

Some eight years later, I am a journalist who reports on the intersection of race and health, with a particular focus on health equity and how Black communities and communities of color are impacted. With narratives from the community, I use data to demonstrate that race does, in fact, have a role to play.

Growing up in Los Angeles taught me how to connect with communities to amplify their experiences. Attending San Francisco State University allowed me to develop the skills necessary to become an effective reporter. Taking a risk to earn my master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science gave me the courage to pitch and write complex stories.

From the time I started my journey as a reporter in 2013, my goal has always been the same: to educate, inform and highlight the issues that impact communities of color, and allow my reporting to be a loudspeaker.

Today, I am a Southern California-based reporter who uses data, research and instinct to cover issues that impact underreported communities.
